Passo the Great Dane – as seen on ABC Radio/TV

n

Dr Lesley Goff (APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Animal Physiotherapist) presented a fascinating and inspiring case at the APA Conference. Passo, a Great Dane, was bitten by a brown snake ten times last year resulting in paraplegia. With such enthusiastic owners, Dr Goff treated this spinal problem with manual therapy, muscle stimulation, a diligent home program of proprioceptive retraining, and underwater treadmill sessions at VSS with animal physiotherapist, Lindsey Connell. With eight treatments over two months, this lovely dog went from recumbence to walking with conscious proprioceptive deficits.

Dr Goff recently was interviewed by ABC radio and TV regarding this case, which was great publicity for our profession. The journalist opened the article saying ‘miracle dog receives new-age treatment…’. Passo went on to complete the Million Paws Walk last year (pictured on the left) and lives a happy and full life thanks to the dedication of the owner and Lesley.
