Lynne and I enjoyed the Rocktape Equine course on Sunday at the QLD state equestrian centre. Thanks to Lesley Goff for coming on board to teach from a physio perspective also. Rock tape is a relatively new form of taping for humans and animals. It provides functional support without the restriction of rigid taping that we have used as physios for many a time. Being quite a dynamic tape and also hypoallergenic it is very well tolerated by animals also. I hope to apply it to the clinic especially in the acute post op phase when the dogs have been shaved after surgery (e.g. to help reduce swelling, promote circulation and improve awareness and stability of muscles for rehabilitation purposes).  It can also go around corners and is now used extensively for the elite athlete. Being able to stay in place for 3-5 days this can be very effective for providing ongoing proprioceptive feedback to the human and animal during rehabilitation.
