Samui - long time no see!

Brooke Marsh - Sunday, December 11, 2011

Samui came back to visit yesterday.  I treated Samui 4 years ago when she was an 8 yo Border collie.  After being hit by a car, she suffered severe hip/pelvis fractures.  With extensive surgery and such incredible devotion from her owners, we managed to get  Samui back to the property running on 4 legs.  As she had such severe injuries she ended up losing range in her left back leg and it has stayed as a 'peg' leg so to speak.

4 years down the track and as a bright 12 yo working dog, she now needs some tune ups to help reduced the secondary arthritis she has been developing.

She remembered the underwater treadmill and took to it like a duck to water.  Samui has been through so much over the last few years and still enjoys time with the father of her child Julius (also pictured).  Julius has had radiotherapy 2 years ago for a brain tumour and though a little 'special' is still bright and happy and enjoyed some therapy for his Christmas oil and grease change.

Samui impacted on me greatly when I treated her 4 years ago and she was my first dog on my wall of fame at NCVS.  It is great to see her high spirit again and I look forward to keeping her moving next year.

Thanks again for all the incredible hard work, love and dedication you put into your dogs!

From big to small - Nelson gone home

Brooke Marsh - Sunday, November 13, 2011

My day is certainly full of variety. I left my equine acupuncture course to come to NCVS to treat this little fella. Nelson has survived being hit by a car with severe pelvic injuries.  He is slowly recovering and has tolerated all the steps I have put him through in the last week.

We sent him home to his keen owner up north to carry on getting his legs moving again.  He will need a lot of work but such a gorgeous fella deserves to have all his 4 legs working for him. I wish him all the best and look forward to hearing how he gets on!

Cheers

Am I allowed to have favourites?

Brooke Marsh - Sunday, September 18, 2011

I am not sure I am allowed to have favourites but this dog Cooper would have to be mine this week. This little fella was driven down from Gladstone from his dedicated owners after being run over by a tractor.  He has multiple pelvic and leg fractures but has an amazing personality and bless him is coping well with all I am putting him through.  He has mastered the underwater treadmill, falls asleep with acupuncture and if I distract him with a toy lets me massage and regain movement in his leg. What a lovely fella I hope he gets back to walking soon and home to his owners who are missing him dearly.  Hopefully this working dog is learning to stay away from wheels!

How stella has grown!

Brooke Marsh - Tuesday, August 09, 2011
In a very short period of time this puppy has doubled in size and weight in a month!  If you remember Stella she was rescued from the RSPCA with a leg fracture when only 5 weeks old.

With such keen and dedicated new owners she is turning into a beautiful (and HUGE) puppy.  She is walking and playing well and definitely as quality of life now.  We have added some underwater treadmill, physiotherapy and acupuncture to her treatments.  It is certainly nice to see her pass out for brief periods with her acupuncture

AND NOW......

I look forward to following her progression until she is fully grown and back to full exercise. She has a very bright future now thanks to her new owners.

Thanks to Sue and Haggis for such a beautiful testimonial. I have added this one today - certainly made my day to see him full stretch and back to full quality of life. That is what it is all about!!
