This made my day...

Brooke Marsh - Saturday, April 14, 2012
I treated Harry a few years ago after Cruciate surgery.  He recovered very well but had an incident of back spasm on Easter weekend, requiring treatment.  I was a little concerned about the fella and woke up to this message which made my day.

Hi Brooke

I can’t thank you enough for the care you took with Harry yesterday, and the extra time you gave him.

He slept for about 2 hrs when we got home, snuggled up in his pale blue dressing gown. When he woke up he was very happy and energetic. The massage and acupuncture worked wonders for him. This morning he woke us up (first time all week) ready to go out walking and demanding breakfast.

That is why I love my job!

Chewbacca - And what an appropriate name - look at that face!

Brooke Marsh - Sunday, January 29, 2012
He certainly stands up to his name. This boisterous little fella was very brave with his physio yesterday.  He is 2 weeks after Cruciate surgery and is recovering well.  If we can stop him bouncing around for a bit and build up his stability and strength I expect him to do very well.  After some massage, physiotherapy and underwater treadmill session for the first time he did shut his eyes for some acupuncture before heading home.
Chewbacca had an acute Cruciate ligament rupture which is rare in dogs (compared the the human football player for e.g.). He returned home after recovering from tick paralysis and fell down some stairs. Not a good end to the year for Chewie but let's hope 2012 gets you back on track!

Julius - how stunning is he!

Brooke Marsh - Sunday, November 13, 2011

What a stunning boy Julius is.  With such proud owners I was given some fantastic shots of him. That is one lucky dog.  He is recovering from Cruciate surgery and I am happy to see him getting back on track with such dedicated owners.  By Christmas he should be powering along!

Cheers

Dedicated mum of Max....

Brooke Marsh - Sunday, August 28, 2011

What a dedicated mum.! Julie has been bringing her lovely Lab Max to me for a few years now to help manage his arthritis.  He is being beautifully maintained in his mature years despite a growing pack around him.  I love Julie's energy 2 days before she is due to keep Max a priority in her life.  What a lucky dog! I look forward to meeting the new pack member shortly. All the best to you all.
Thanks for visiting and keeping Max going!

Tuli's beach day out

Brooke Marsh - Thursday, August 04, 2011
It made my day to get this update about the lovely Tuli:

" I took Tuls to the beach on Saturday arvo.  Haven't done that in a long time because it's always very hard on her legs and hips.
The tide was out so there wasn't much soft sand
She had a great time, chased some sticks in the surf, barked the whole time and made some new friends. She was a bit stiff and sore saturday night but recovered well and was back to normal on Sunday.

Before beginning Physio I stayed away from the beach because she was always very stiff and sore afterwards.  Looks like we may be able to return, maybe once a fortnight/month."

May Madness!

Brooke Marsh - Tuesday, June 07, 2011
It has been a very interesting and rewarding Month

Through May I have travelled as part of the NCVS (North Coast Veterinary Specialist) team on our conference series. We started in Mooloolaba then headed to Mackay and Hervey Bay to educate Vets and Vet nurses.  This year my topic was Cruciate Ligament Injury in the Dog - the most common cause of lameness in the dog.  It was great to visit these areas and be part of such a great team to continue our education series.  I trust this was well received and was very grateful to be part of such a highly skilled and motivated team.

I also had a meeting in Melbourne with the APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) as part of the committee for the Animal Physiotherapy Group (APG).  We have been discussing many professional issues.  Animal Physiotherapy is a new profession in Australia.  We are working with our professional body to continue our educational pathway.  At this stage the Masters Program I completed is not running so we are working establishing our training program once again.

For over 2 years now I have also been trying to work with the Pet Insurance companies to include Physiotherapy as part of their insurance package to their clients.  In human health care Physiotherapy is vital and well established for rehabilitation, conservative management to prevent surgery and further recurrence of injures, and maximise quality of life.  I strongly believe that this model applies to our Pets in Australia.  The APA is also helping me to establish this for our profession.  Hopefully we will have some success to greatly enhance the opportunities for rehabilitation for our pets.

So it has been a very interesting and rewarding month.  Off for a surf in the morning to breathe a little!!

Conference Mackay - Cruciate Ligament and Physiotherapy

Brooke Marsh - Wednesday, May 11, 2011
It was great to continue our conference series through Qld with NCVS.  As a team we flew to Mackay on the weekend to present to vets and vet nurses. In these more remote communities it is always great to be involved with continued education.  I presented to these 2 groups on Physiotherapy and Cruciate Ligament injury in the dog.  I hope they gained a greater understanding for more specific rehabilitation options for their clients with this most common orthopaedic injury.
I look forward to the next one of the series in June in Hervey Bay.

NCVS - Conference on Cruciate ligament in the dog

Brooke Marsh - Sunday, April 03, 2011

NCVS had another successful start to the conference series for Vets and Vet nurses  this year.  We started at Mooloolaba yesterday and will head up to Mackay and Hervey Bay over the next few months.  This is a great way for the team at NCVS to thank all our referrers and provide an open learning opportunity for all.  I trust everyone enjoyed the day, especially lunch out in the sun overlooking the water.

This year I presented on Physiotherapy and Cruciate Ligament Injury.  Cruciate Ligamant injury is the most common cause of lameness and orthopaedic injury in the Dog.  There have been many advances in human literature and veterinary technology in treating this condition.  Therefore I was grateful to be given the opportunity to explain to the Vets and nurses the benefits of Physiotherapy pre/post op or for conservative management and what this involves over their 6-12 month recovery.

I hope everyone enjoyed this day. I always leave these days feeling very proud to be part of such an incredible team at NCVS.
Thanks to Janelle for organising this successful day
Brooke.

Minty is back...

Brooke Marsh - Tuesday, August 25, 2009
I was very happy today to see our lovely Minty back in action.  She is on my testimonial page as the gorgeous golden retriever and has worked so hard at recovering from Cruciate ligament surgery and hip dysplasia.  Recently she has had a bout of pancreatitis and was quite unwell.  Thanks to some homeopathic medication from her vet and some love and attention she was able to make it back today for her underwater treadmill session.  We look forward to getting her back on track and continuing to work on her buns of steal!
Good work Minty and thanks for bringing your smiles and squeals into the practice again today.
